Even outside of the pitch, Beckham still remainsin the spotlight

David Beckham announced his retirement from playing professional competitive football back in May of 2013 but this hasn’t stopped the Englishman from being in the spotlight of the media as he continues being one of the most sought out celebrities.

The 40 year old David Beckham appeared in the 6th Biennial UNICEF Ball as he received the Humanitarian Award for everything that he has done in helping out the lives of children from all over the world. This event also had some celebrities from the world of music and films as: Selena Gomez, Nicole Kidman and Mariah Carey were just a few of the more recognized starts which appeared in this event and took pictures with the former star of Manchester United.

“I am humbled tonight. We live in a world in which children still die of preventable diseases. Children are still being abused. I have four children of my own. I will not stop supporting this charity that does so much for so many children around the world.” This was the speech that Beckham said to everyone who was at the event as he accepted his humanitarian award.

The charitable work that Beckham has been doing is not something recent; this is something that the Englishman started doing way back in 2005 when he was playing for Manchester United. The former captain of the English national side became a Goodwill Ambassador as he aided in the sports program of development of UNICEF and from there on out Beckham has launched a series of activities, organizations and foundations aimed to help people who are suffering from poverty, malnutrition and diseases.

During his playing career, Beckham was one of the wealthiest players in the world and even though he isn’t even playing anymore, he still continues to earn a hefty amount of money which is mainly due to his other businesses outside of the world of football but nonetheless, helping out the less fortunate is something that he has been doing for over a decade.
