Ronaldo Helps Real Madrid Beat Their Own Record

Cristiano Ronaldo cemented his position as one of the top players in the world after helping Real Madrid win the Champions League, which was their 10th in the history of the club. Real were already record holders after having lifted nine European cups, but the wait for the 10th trophy proved elusive after they have gone several years without winning the title. They finally managed to achieve this dream after beating Atletico Madrid 4-1 in this year’s final. Ronaldo was one of the scorers on the night after his penalty secured the cup for the club.

After the final, Ronaldo says that Real certainly deserved to beat Atletico Madrid and lift the title. For long periods of the match, it looked like a mistake by Iker Casillas to allow Godin to score in the first half would be catastrophic for Madrid. A failure would have branded them as losers for the rest of their life after having come close. Sergio Ramos, however, equalised with just seconds remaining on the clock before Gareth Bale put them ahead. It was Ronaldo’s goal that sealed the victory towards the end.

This was the second Champions League title for Ronaldo, who was extremely delighted after the match. The Portuguese superstar is the current holder of the FIFA Ballon d’Or award. “It was an unbelievable night, to win La Decima [the club’s 10th European title] here in Portugal with a beautiful crowd. It’s something we’ve been wanting for many, many years and I’m really pleased and happy. I think the team deserved it because we played better than Atletico Madrid. I always believed, but we know that to score in 92 minutes is a lucky moment but when you force the game all the time and you believe, it’s always more easy,” said Ronaldo.

Real failed to lift the league title last season.

Beckham Scraps Plan For New Stadium

David Beckham appears to have scrapped the plans to open the new stadium for his MLS franchise to the original location after he announced the new plan that will be coming up along the Biscayne Bay. Beckham recently revealed plans for 20,000 seat stadium that will also help the Miami community get a public park as well. However, even this plan is expected to run into several difficulties since the Manchester United star will have to negotiate a deal with the city of Miami and the Miami Dade County in order to get the required land.

Along with his co-investors, he will then have to make substantial alterations to the land – at his own expense – and increase the park area by more than 4 acres. Despite the expected investments exceeding the initial outlays, Beckham has stated that he and his investors are committed towards the project and are willing to take these measures in order to construct the stadium. Beckham has once again focused on making this as a community project. He also expects the waterfront area to be activated throughout the year following the construction of this project.

Beckham is widely expected to include several friends in his upcoming MLS franchise with the likes of NBA star Lebron James being one among them. Miami has not had a MLS franchise for a long time. “I’ve always said that our team will be the people’s club – another downtown amenity that makes the entire Miami-Dade community proud. By expanding Museum Park with new public spaces anchored by world-class art and science museums and a world-class soccer club, we’ll be activating the waterfront on a year-round basis,” said the former Manchester United star.

Beckham is expected to plough in more than £ 20 million of his own money in order to setup this franchise.
