Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that the Uruguay striker Luis Suarez must be sure that he can overturn the bad reputation he has enjoyed in England since his arrival.

The 25-year-old striker recently extended his Liverpool deal after signing a new five-year contract, despite his existing contract having more than four years to run. He is now amongst the highest paid players at the club due to his importance. He has scored more than 20 goals in his 50 appearances for the club. However, the Uruguay striker was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in a match between the two clubs last season, and the liverpool forums have been unsure on him ever since.

Since then, he has been constantly berated by the supporters of the opposition team both at home and in the away matches. This has taken the edge out of his performance according to many critics. However, the Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that Luis Suarez should look at David Beckham and the way he has once again made himself a very important player. The former Real Madrid midfielder was almost pushed to the brink by the then Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello. However, Beckham proved that he was an influential member in the squad by returning to help the Real Madrid team win the title.

“I didn’t hear the reaction (during the Olympics) but top players get a bit of stick at every away ground. But if there is a negative reaction towards a player it is normally because they are good. We have seen it over time and players can become stronger for sure. Looking at the David Beckham scenario a number of years ago, they were burning effigies of him. Now he is king of the world. That is how it can change,” said the Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
